A Father’s Day Filled with Gratitude

Today is the happiest Father’s Day of my life. Exactly one year ago, my 8 year old daughter, Mae, suffered a brain haemorrhage and a massive stroke an experience that was terrifying and traumatic for our entire family. In those moments of uncertainty, we relied on the remarkable expertise of the Avon air ambulance and the neurosurgery team at Bristol Children’s Hospital, whose skill, dedication, and compassion saved Mae’s life. Thanks to their tireless efforts, she survived and is now on the road to recovery.

Today, Mae is here with me, smiling and wishing me a happy Father’s Day, and I couldn’t be more grateful, relieved, and proud. This day carries extraordinary meaning, reminding me of the fragility of life, the strength of family, and the power of resilience. I cherish the heartfelt card that Mae and Jack made for me such a simple yet profound symbol of love and connection.

Life’s experiences especially the ones that test us the most shape us both personally and professionally. Mae’s ordeal has changed me, pushing me to be a better person, a stronger father, and a more thoughtful leader. I love leading Simpson & Partners, and while it demands significant time, energy, and dedication, this journey has reaffirmed the importance of balancing ambition with family, of ensuring that amidst the pressures of work, we never lose sight of the moments that truly matter.

To all the fathers out there who are running their own businesses, navigating challenges, and juggling responsibilities, I salute you! Finding the right balance between business and family is a constant pursuit, but it is worth every effort.

Let’s celebrate the precious moments, embrace the lessons life teaches us, and remember that fatherhood, just like entrepreneurship, is a journey of dedication, love, and unwavering determination.
